2015 Training Diary – Week 37

How fast is this year going? It must be something about getting older, but time just seems to fly right past me as I get further along in this crazy life – I can’t believe it’s the middle of September already! People have even started mentioning the ‘C’ word already… soon we’ll be watching Elf and eating advent calendar chocolates!

Anyway, as time flies and days go by with promises of “I’ll exercise tomorrow” recurring over and over, soon a week has gone and I realise I’ve done absolutely nothing! Thanks so much for the comments and messages after my last training diary – it seems I’m not alone in struggling to get back into exercise after injury. I really love this blogging community – everyone is so quick to support and guide. I truly feel as though I’ve made some very good friends.

Week 37: 7th to 13th September 2015

Monday – Rest day. I booked the day off work to drive down to Lakeside shopping centre to drop off my engagement ring to be dipped, and to get some bits and pieces for the wedding. I also ended up picking up a new leather jacket… who doesn’t always have room in their wardrobe for a good leather jacket?!

Tuesday – Rest day. Back to work today, I had a lot of work to catch up on and a pretty hectic day. I took the evening to get a blog post up ready for National Fitness Day tomorrow, make dinner and relax.

Wednesday – Rest day. Darren and I had planned to go to the gym tonight, but when I left for work he was feeling a bit sick and ended up vomiting not long after I left. Needless to say he wasn’t up for the gym and I didn’t really fancy it without him. I made him a fairly plain dinner, which he barely touched, and we went to bed. I started to think to myself it would be a miracle if I don’t get ill too…

But, I soon cheered up as I opened a lovely package from the even more lovely Lexie Sport. For those of you who don’t know, I was one of four very lucky girls to be picked as a Lexie Girl to represent the brand and take part in a brilliant photo shoot. As a thank you, they sent us a gorgeous goody bag packed with Lexie kit, Activbod goodies, and a Tribe box. Thursday – Rest day. With a now full on sickness bug, poor Darren was stuck at home. After work I got straight on the computer to finish off a blog post on my detox review. It was funny writing about a diet trial that, unfortunately, ended in me feeling nauseous while my fiance was in the middle of a sickness bug… gotta love the synchronicity.

Friday –  CrossFit 6am. Realising that I may not end up getting ill as well, I dragged my sorry butt out the door to CrossFit. It was 1RM week this week, but having not been consistently (or at all in some cases) over the past 11 weeks or so, I thought it was best not to go fully to max. That soon went out the window as we started deadlifting. Deadlifts are one of my favourite strength tests as you can just go so damn heavy with them! I worked my way up to 105kg… not too shabby with my 1RM currently sitting at 110kg. I stopped there though and went back to reps at 85kg.  The WOD was a partner AMRAP, for 10 minutes, of:

10 calorie row/airdyne (alternating)

10 russian kettlebell swings (32/24kg)

10 sit ups

10 wall balls (9/7kg)

10 OH lunges (25/15kg)

I worked with Jo and we did 5 rounds and 45 reps as RX. 24kg kettlebell swings sure do feel heavy sometimes!


Saturday – Yoga 8:30am. The brilliant Paul (who used to teach at the CrossFit box I go to) has started a Saturday morning yoga class nearby so I had to go along. As always, his class was a total roar and he challenged us with lots of different stretches, twists and balances. I love Paul’s classes as he really does cater for everyone and doesn’t take himself too seriously! After class I practiced a headstand… which I still am too chicken to do away from a wall! One day I WILL get it!

Sunday – Rest day. Today I was supposed to be running the Bacchus Half, but with my stress fracture back in July it just wasn’t going to be. This had been the race I had been looking forward to the most, and I was going to be running it with Elle, but she also couldn’t make it after a crazy couple of days at Bestival, so we vowed to do it together next year! I’m holding you to that one, Elle 😉

    Your journal is so cute! I love all the bright colors.. my workout journal is so messy.. so many lists, things crossed out.. craziness! LOL

      Thanks Liz! Erasable pens are where it’s at! I use PILOT Frixion pens in it day to day, but did Sharpie doodles for the photo! But if you do have to cross something out you could always washi tape over it to keep it pretty and colourful 🙂
