2015 Training Diary – Week 40

2015 Training Diary – Week 40

Training will be taking a bit of a back seat now until the wedding. It’s the penultimate week before we say “I do” and I don’t want to be a bruised bride! I always said that I’d do my last CrossFit session a couple of weeks before, just to help avoid the risk of whip marks, bruises, etc. and since ripping my hand last week I’ve been a bit nervous of doing much more in case I end up with all sorts of nastiness before our big day.

But, I still wanted to get a few workouts in, so decided to keep things safe with some tried-and-tested, but long neglected, old favourites…

Week 40: 28th September to 4th October 2015

Monday – Pilates 5:45pm. I booked on for a pilates session at my gym – a class I’d not been to yet. I qualified a couple of years ago to teach pilates, but never got around to starting up a class. Initially I’d planned to keep it as one-to-one sessions alongside my sports massage, but then I never really marketed it at all so didn’t really do much with it!

The class was great with a series of challenging exercises, including a couple I’d not done before, even in all of my training! My abs were definitely fighting in some of the positions!

Tuesday – Rest day. I got home from work and cracked on with some planning, including sending our photographer a list of the group shots we wanted for the day.

Wednesday – CrossFit 6am. Nervous about my hands I was hoping for anything without rig work… only to walk in and see toes to bar on the board! We started with working on toes to bar with 12 minutes of reps on the rig, supersetted with handstand pushups, every 90 seconds – aiming for 1 minute work and 30 seconds rest. I scaled to hanging leg raises and hand release pushups with my hand still sore.

We then did 4 x 15 reps of bench press at 55-60% 1RM. I worked at 30kg.

Then we moved on to the WOD, which was a chipper of:

10 calorie row

20 box jumps (24/20″)

30 american kettlebell swings (32/24kg)

40 double unders

30 wall balls (9/7kg)

20 sit ups

10 burpees

I scaled the WOD with a 16kg kettlebell and single-unders instead of double to finish in 9:01.

After work I had my final physio appointment. Joe was pleased with how much my leg has improved and signed me off to get back to running as well as not needing any more physio.

Thursday – Rest day. We had a meeting in Rayleigh with our Master of Ceremonies for the wedding to go through the plans and what we did and didn’t want him to do on the day. We never thought we would have a Toastmaster, but after meeting him at the tasting evening at our venue we didn’t know how we would do the day without him! The meeting went well, but it was a late night home with the drive as well.

Friday – Spinning 6am. When I first started exercising all those years ago, spinning was what really got me hooked. A class atmosphere, pumping music, that feeling of energy as you push down on the pedals… going nowhere, but feeling like a boss! So I signed up for one of my old favourites, the 6am class – still taught by the same instructor, and friend of mine, Milly! There were even still some of the same familiar faces on the bikes nearby.

Spinning: those familiar faces welcoming you, ready for the pain that is... an endurance class! Click To Tweet

The class was in the endurance zone, but with a few sprints thrown in (because Milly’s mean like that!) and I kept the resistance lower than I would have liked to as my legs just weren’t used to it! I came out sweaty as ever and buzzing from the atmosphere – ready to start the day.

Saturday – Rest day. I had originally booked on to do yoga this morning, but as the final weekend before the wedding I just didn’t have time and cracked on with a hearty breakfast to start my day off right.

Sunday – Rest day. Today was mostly about getting some wedding crafts done… with 85 place names to make, I got cracking early with the rugby on the telly while my hubby-to-be mowed the lawn, then in the evening we got a production line going to try and get them finished. Less than a week till the wedding!

What does your typical training week look like? Do you mix it up with different classes or exercises every now and then? If you keep a training diary I’d love to read it – please feel free to link below in the comments!

Well done in being so committed to logging your training! I feel like I need to find a way to do this to help me get back in the swing of things!

And awesome work on the TTB; I never got up to that when I was doing crossfit! And a friend told me there is a box opening on my doorstep soon so Im eager to check it out when it does! Hope I like the crowd! lol xoxo

Thanks Elle! I’m not great at logging it properly and end up in the same situation where I have to sit down and think back to what I did haha! But writing this makes me do that so it’s a good way to look back and reflect!

And thanks RE the TTB 🙂 I’m hoping they will continue to pick up. I’ve had single ones for a while now, but struggle to string them together! That’s exciting about the local box! I’m sure they will be, and when you’re there from the start it’s an even more close-knit community! Let me know how you get on and maybe we can do a box swap! xx
