Getbuzzing Nut-Free Flapjack Bars

Getbuzzing Nut-Free Flapjack Bars
Reading Time: 3 minutes

I’ll be the first to admit I love a good flapjack. Chewy, sweet and full of energy they’re a great pre-workout or between-meal snack. In fact, I like them so much that when I took part in The Sugar Challenge I made a batch of sugar-free ones to keep me going during the London to Brighton bike ride. Making your own bars is alright if you have the time and inclination, and if you know you’re going to eat them all before they go off, but unfortunately fully natural and not-too-sweet flapjacks are quite hard to come by for a grab-and-go option.

Step in Getbuzzing

The lovely people at Getbuzzing sent me a selection of their bars to try (as well as an entire box of their new WowButter flavour to giveaway – keep reading for details!).

Getbuzzing flapjack bars contain 100% natural ingredients and all of their bars (currently 5 different flavours!) are completely nut-free. Current flavour options are:

  • Date and Seed
  • Banana
  • Berry
  • Cherry Protein
  • WowButter

Made from a combination of oats, honey, golden syrup, dried fruit, seeds, butter, some oil and a little natural colouring*, the ingredients are pretty angelic. Sure, these bars contain sugar, but only in natural sources from the honey, golden syrup and fruit, and the main ingredient is the oats that give this bar its substance.

* Typical ingredients as listed on the Date and Seed bar.

Tried and tested

My only problem when trying out the Getbuzzing bars was choosing which flavour to try first! I opted for the WowButter as the concept intrigued me. I hadn’t actually heard of WowButter before (I’m a huge peanut butter lover and fortunately don’t have any problems consuming peanuts) but from a bit of research I found out that it’s a peanut butter alternative made from toasted soya. It makes sense, then, that the nut-free flapjack creators would team up with them to make a peanut butter flapjack! I have to admit I was impressed.

Next up I got my hands on the protein cherry bar, which is a delicious combination of chewy flapjack, tart cherries and crisp soya protein to give an impressive 14.7g of protein. All of the flavours are lovely, but my favourites have to be berry and the original date and seed bars. All I would say about the bars is that they can be a little crumbly, which I think is due to the reduced honey/syrup content, but if anything it just makes you eat more consciously and therefore savour the taste more… win-win!

Between 210-300 calories per 62g bar and with 30-40g of carbohydrate (slightly less for the protein cherry flavour) these really are perfect bars for before training. I found them great for a quick pre-run snack if I didn’t have time for porridge in the morning, or eaten mid-afternoon for evening workouts.

Getbuzzing bars are available to buy from their online shop, as well as from Wiggle, Ocado, Waitrose and David Lloyd gyms… or you can enter my competition below to get your hands on a box for free!
