My Workout Playlist

My Workout Playlist
Reading Time: 2 minutes

So if you read my blog regularly you may know that I don’t tend to listen to music when I run. I do, however, LOVE a good playlist to get me through a WOD or a workout at the gym and find that music can make a real difference between killing a workout or going in a little half-hearted. So when PureGym invited me to take part in their “What’s Your Dream Gym Playlist” competition I was excited to put together my favourite tracks!

If you want to enter, all you have to do is submit a blog post with your favourite workout tracks by the 31st July, and you could be in for a prize of a Maxi Nutrition bundle worth £500, or one of two runner up prizes of both a Fitbit Zip and £100 Sweatshop voucher.

My Workout Playlist

This is a playlist for a short HIIT workout, so I’ve purposely chosen the songs that I know would get me working my hardest for a short duration… get ready, it might be a little on the eclectic side!

Song Number 1 – Shake It Off, Taylor Swift

This song is undoubtedly on a lot of entries into this competition, and with good reason. Upbeat, fun and catchy, you will be dancing your way through burpees! And… my little secret? It’s exactly 4 minutes long – perfect for Tabata! Shake it off!

Song Number 2 – Flux, Bloc Party

I love this track, it’s got a great beat for running or spinning, and you can sprint to the chorus for a little impromptu fartlek training. It kinda makes me want to sing too… but not too loud in the gym!

Song Number 3 – Good Luck, Basement Jaxx

A second 4 minute track… hmmm I’m onto a theme here! This song starts a little slow, but wait until it kicks in and you won’t know what’s hit you. Perfect for a circuit style workout, running, or anything that needs a little extra kick.

Song Number 4 – Faint, Linkin Park

I love Linkin Park, I’m not going to deny it. Meteora is just one of those albums I can have on my shuffle and it will carry me through the hardest of workouts. If this comes on mid-WOD, god help anyone around me because I’ll be throwing myself into whatever I’m doing!

Song Number 5 – Heads Will Roll, Yeah Yeah Yeahs

This may not be your classic workout track, but I love it. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have such a cool sound, and I find this track makes me really focused. Even sitting here typing this now I feel kind of mesmerised!

Song Number 6 – If You Wait, London Grammar

Everyone needs a good cool down track, something to stretch to, and what better than the sound of London Grammar? This song is just stunning, with the beautiful vocals and the simple music. I defy you not to have a lower heart rate after listening to this!

So that’s it, 6 tracks and just over 20 minutes of musical awesomeness.

What’s on your workout playlist? Do we have any crossovers?
