PROMiXX – The Original Vortex Mixer

Image

Having been a user of protein shakes for a while now the one thing that’s always frustrated me is the cheap, rattly bottles you get to mix them with. They always seem very plastic, quite flimsy and just so NOISY! If you take them with you to the gym in your sports bag all you can hear is the little wire ball rolling around inside the bottle, and if you carry them with fluids already inside you’re in for a mess when you open your bag to find they’ve leaked everywhere.

Step in PROMiXX.

I was lucky enough to be among the first to try out this revolutionary new sports supplement mixer and I have to say I am 100% sold.

Keep reading for my full review, and to find out how to get your very own PROMiXX bottle!

The Theory

The PROMiXX sports bottle is a 650ml capacity tumbler, made from BPA free plastic, with a special blade that fits onto a 9,000rpm motor. When activated, the blade creates a vortex, mixing the liquid with the protein powder, or whatever supplement you may choose to use.

The motor runs on two AAA batteries, and is removable for cleaning of the bottle.

The lid, a leak-proof sports cap, allows you to drink or pour as required.

In Practice

Now, I have to admit I was a little sceptical when the bottle first arrived. Being a little slow, I’d misunderstood the premise… I had expected a “blade” as in, y’know – something sharp! So when my PROMiXX bottle arrived and I found that the blade was actually made from quite flexible plastic I was surprised. But, just to prove me an idiot, I part-filled the bottle with water and chucked in some of my protein powder of choice, pressed the button and there it was: a perfectly mixed protein shake!

The motor itself is very quiet, if you place the bottle on a table whilst mixing (like in the photo) it makes a little bit more noise because of the vibrations coming from the whirring, but it’s actually very discreet. Transporting it is no problem; there are no loose parts to rattle in your bag, and as the theory explains, the bottle cap is leak-proof so no nasty spills.

The vortex created by the blade is powerful enough to mix up the thickest of shakes (some powders recommend only 150ml of fluid, which can get a bit clumpy), and as you can see is actually quite subtle – you could easily mix this with the lid off with no risk of ending up covered in whey!

Cleaning the bottle is simple: just twist the bottom where the motor unit is and it comes away, leaving you free to rinse and wash the bottle and cap. I’ve even mixed with a little hot (not boiling) water and started the motor for a lazy, self-clean!

All that, and the bottle looks pretty swish too, don’t you think? Gone are the matt plastic colours and frosted semi-clear containers of a regular protein shaker. Instead with PROMiXX you have a lovely, glossy black top, a thick, clear main container, along with the sturdy feel of something longer lasting.

My only reservation about PROMiXX was the lack of measurement markings on the bottle, but PROMiXX have informed me that this is because of a desire to satisfy everyone… apparently there are some people out there that don’t like to know the exact quantity of liquid they are mixing… strange creatures! To get around this dilemma, PROMiXX are providing customers with a choice: each box will come complete with a vinyl sticker that you can put on the bottle if, like me, you like to know every millilitre of fluid you are pouring in, or not if you want to keep it looking nice and slick. Marvellous!
